Social Media, SEO and Social Networking

Social Media arguably is the most important form of advertising and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Although, I can’t say I am thrilled at the realisation. I personally do not really like the idea of being a “content creator”, and I definitely do not want to be the face of it. I have decided though, that I can advertise on social media by posting quotes from my blog posts, or from posting quotes that relate to my blog post and have an invite for people to read more on the subject. This I feel like I could handle doing and not feel like some social media influencer robot. Now, there is something I came across in my daily podcast listening, during work, about a guy named Cal Newport. Thin interesting thing about Cal is that he has never had a social media account, and he was going to an ivy league school at the same time as Mark Zuckerberg when Facebook was launched but he didn’t join. Despite not having social media Cal Newport is still very well known and his books are widely read. Now it wouldn’t be fair to say that social media wasn’t involved, because it was, but not through him posting stuff. What? How, you say? Well, people post about him for him, without him even asking. Meaning his work is so good that people just want to share it with the world for free. All Cal has to do is spend the extra time he has from not doom scrolling on social media and create more new and helpful thoughts that other people deem worth sharing. Interesting to consider.

Maybe Cal is a rarity, and that would not work for most people, or maybe its just that most people don’t take enough time alone with their thoughts to generate truly amazing ideas…? Whatever the case is, we can still say social media is super important and that is not likely to change. So let’s figure out how to utilise it in the best way for us.
